MEET PA CHUA VANG
Pa Chua Vang grew up in the Saint Paul Mount Airy housing projects and attended Saint Paul Public Schools all her life. Growing up, she took care of her siblings while her father attended school and mother worked. During the summers, while other kids went to summer camps and did summer activities, Pa Chua and her seven siblings had to help their parents with gardening so that they would have income to purchase supplies, three pairs of outifts each, and materials for back to school.
Eventually, Pa Chua’s father graduated from college and found a job right away. Then her parents bought a house and moved the family out of the projects. Pa Chua saw that the key out of poverty is education. She graduated from a St. Paul ALC school due to the small class size that it offered. Pa Chua went on to college and is currently a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Pa Chua currently serves on organizations such as Big Brother, Big Sister; Hmong Healthcare Professional Coalition; and Sewing Our Future Together. Pa Chua is 37 years old and lives in St. Paul.
